Rhodes looked fired up as he hit the ring for his third match against Black. They collided in the middle of the ring and Rhodes took him down by the leg.
Black kicked him from the mat and got back to his feet so they could trade side headlock takeovers. The crowd chanted against Rhodes as Black took him down with a flurry of kicks.
The American Nightmare stomped on Black's face a few times to take control, but one back elbow from Black took him off his feet again. Arn Anderson paced at ringside, likely resisting the urge to pull out his Glock, as he watched the action.
Rhodes grabbed a chair while Brock Anderson and Lee Johnson made their way to ringside. Black managed to maintain the upper hand while Brock put the chair back under the ring.
We returned from a break to see that Rhodes put Black through a table with Cross Rhodes from the apron. Black was busted open from the impact. He shoved Rhodes into the ring post to bust him open, too.
Andrade El Idolo came out and Anderson planted his assistant with a spinebuster. Black took Arn out while PAC ran down to fight Andrade to the back. The Dutch Destroyer hit a moonsault but Rhodes immediately got to his feet and hit his finisher for a close two-count.
Black hit a diving double stomp and a German suplex for another near-fall. Rhodes hit his finisher a few times and a Tiger Driver for the pin.
This was easily the best of their three matches, possibly because it was the longest and most competitive. The first bout was almost a squash and the second was another definitive win for Black. This was a brutal fight between two rivals that ended with Rhodes getting some measure of revenge.
Both men were busted open, Arn took a bump, the outside interference never felt excessive and both men looked as intense as ever. There was almost nothing to complain about in this match.
Whether this is the end of their feud remains to be seen. The only sure thing is that Black suffered little from this loss. He will bounce back and continue to be a dangerous competitor in AEW.
This was a strong episode of Dynamite with a few matches that are worth taking the time to watch if you did not see the show live.
